What is GRE and why GRE is important?

The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is a standardized and adaptive test that is required to be taken by students seeking admission to Universities in the United States and other countries for their higher education. The exam has been developed to examine the Verbal, Analytical and Mathematical skills of the candidates. GRE is a CBT (computer-based test) and has a student-friendly layout. Overseas Education Aspirant from the opposite sides of the globe who are interested in pursuing a Master’s or Doctoral course in Science, Technology, Engineering, Management and so on take the GRE (General Test).

Salient features

  • 1. GRE is a CBT (Computer based test). No Negative marking.
  • 2. Analytical Writing section is subjective and always the first.
  • 3. The order of the test can be either AW – Q1 – V1 – Q2 – V2 – Q3 or AW – V1 – Q1 – V2 – Q2 – V3 (Q1 = Quant; V1 = Verbal)
  • 4. The un-scored section will not be known to the test taker and can appear in any order after Analytical Writing section. It can be any of the V/Q sections, and it would not be counted towards the test taker’s main score.
  • 5. GRE is a Sectional Adaptive Test.
  • 6. Total GRE Score is out of 340 (AW Section is scored separately on a scale of 0-6. The total duration of the test will be about 3 hours 45 minutes.)
  • 7. The scores are made available immediately after the exam is over. However, the grades of Analytical Writing are available only after a week’s period (approx.)
  • 8. At the end of the test, one can send the scores to 4 universities for free.
  • Am I Qualified For GRE?

    There are no specific eligibility criteria for the GRE. Anyone can register for this exam, irrespective of age or qualifications. The only thing you need to keep in mind is the fact that you will be required to produce your original passport as proof of identity at the exam center, so make sure that you have a valid passport before you register for the GRE.

    1. The application fee for GRE General Test is $205 worldwide      which would roughly translate to Rs.13,500 to Rs.14,500          approximately.
    2.  GRE can be taken on any of the 365 days.
    3.  GRE scores are valid for 5 years.
    4.  Scores are available immediately after the test.
    5.  GRE can be taken more than once and the best score can be          sent for consideration.
    6.  GRE is conducted at specified test centers in selected cities.
